REAL WEDDING: Nitya + Neal 9.25.2011

Our first REAL WEDDING feature is here and it is absolutely stunning!  We LOVE the blend of Southern and Indian inspirations, tell us what you love in our comment section!

From Nitya:
Though Neal and I are both Indian, we wanted to incorporate our southern roots into our wedding somehow. I've always loved the vintage southern feel -- with the  chalkboards, mason jars, burlap...etc. so I worked with Clare Dornburg from Bold American Events to make my vision come true.

Clare and I planned an Indian feel for the ceremony -- we had the Mandap (covered structure with pillars where the wedding takes place) with lots of orange and red flowers and all the traditions that usually take place.

For the evening reception, we opted for navy and fuchsia as our color scheme with mason jar centerpieces, rich damask fabric for the linens and as much southern charm as we could incorporate!

The best advice I could give any newly engaged couple is to put together a team of vendors who already have a great working relationship.  Most of my vendors (i.e. wedding planner, caterer, event decor, photographer, venue coordinator) had worked together in the past so it made the whole planning process as seamless as possible.  Most of the time, they all just spoke with each other directly instead of going through me when they had any questions which made my life so much easier!

Congratulations Nitya and Neal!  Thank you so much for sharing your wedding with us.

Fancy Footwear

I have no idea when feet became so fashionable, but it seems that tootsies are all the rage for everything wedding.

I have seen several engagement/save the date pictures that involve cute kicks or bare toes.

Here are a few of my personal wedding day favorites:

Use your shoes as your 'something blue'!

Flowers, flowers, everywhere...

When it comes to picking out flowers for your big day sticking to seasonal varieties will keep the cost down.  Although if you want something out of season, most florists will still be able to meet your request.  Most brides start with the flowers they want in their own personal bouquet, but don't forget these flowers need to compliment the flowers you choose for your wedding party, the reception, etc.

Here are a few pictures of the flowers from my June, 2007 wedding.
My wedding pictures were taken by Picture This! Photography
My florist is currently taking time off due to the birth of her second baby, congrats Katie!

I absolutely love the elegance of orchids.

The look I really wanted was antique/modern (if there is such a thing).  I wanted huge, fully blooming, loose petal roses, with the structured look of cascading orchids.

The colors I went with were every shade of purple, green, and off-white.

Tall table arrangements allow for your guests to talk across the table without having to look around a giant vase.

We set up small silver vases in the reception hall.  When the bridesmaids arrived they had a place to put their flowers and I got to "reuse" their bouquets as arrangements for the reception.

Since we are no longer in the Summer wedding season and have FINALLY moved into fall, I've gathered some beautiful pictures of fall themed flowers from around the web, enjoy.

Personally, I love the cascading bouquet look!

Another fun trend is the ribbon or felt flowers (keep an eye out for a future post that features an Atlanta vendor that creates bouquets like this).  Super cute, and you can keep it forever!

I can just picture the bride that carries this bouquet: ivory, lace dress, dark red lipstick, smooth pulled back hairstyle.  Stunning.

Something about fern curls really intrigue me!

Simple, seasonal, sensational!
